Pilot Dies A Tragic Death At 26

We don’t often think that the worst is going to happen when we go to work in the morning but for one woman, it would end up ending in tragedy. It happened on July 20 when Melanie Georger, a pilot, went to work.

Melanie works for a skydiving company, Skydive the Falls. She was a pilot who was responsible for picking up skydivers and allowing them to jump from the airplane over Niagara Falls.

On this particular day, everything seemed fine when she picked up the first group. Jeffrey Walker, who is a first-time skydiver that was in that group said that it was great weather, with a low, very calm winds. He said that everyone was excited and in a good mood.

Walker went on to say: “I never even got nervous at the door ready to jump.”

30 minutes after they jumped from the plane, however, the plane crashed to the ground. Georger was heading back to pick up more skydivers when the accident occurred.

911 calls began to come into the Niagara County Sheriff, saying that the plane was on fire and a bush fire had started. Georger was the only person on the plane and she died at the age of 26.

Walker went on to explain: “It’s just an eerie feeling that I was on that plane literally a half hour before it crashed. Why didn’t it crash with us on it? Why didn’t it crash with more people on it? It’s surreal.”

Gregor’s father went on Facebook to share the news of his daughter’s death. He wrote: “Friends and family, my life as I know it ended today. My beloved daughter, my best friend and one of the two lights of my life passed away suddenly today.”

He also said that she was just about to realize her dream of flying for the airlines. He ended: “My life is much darker today and will remain so for a long time.”
